It is a fact forgotten to all but the most dedicated historians and learned archeologists that Chicago is only the last of many cities to be developed on this unique location. Throughout antiquity the geographical site of Chicago has been a premier choice for the establishment of burgeoning communities. Countless different people from all over the world have settled on this exquisite lakeside amidst the rolling prairies bisected by the Chicago River. Archeological records of Chicago’s past have confirmed the fact that long before recorded history there existed the homesteads of ancient Hopewell, Adena, and Illini on or around the very same locations that are now covered by the modern conveniences of Chicago. Prehistoric and ancient civilizations once thrived where Chicago now stands and remnants of their existence may still be found deep beneath the city proper. Far below the solid foundations of iron skyscrapers and the busy tunnels filled with speeding subterranean locomotion there exists a forgotten Undercity that leads throughout Chicago. Accessible from several key locations in the modern-day city above, ancient caverns twist and turn below Chicago. There within the tunnels are magical hotspots, dimensional passageways, and races long since forgotten. Like the bowls of a sleeping giant the subterranean tunnels fill the midsection of the city proper’s belly. Each long forgotten passageway, twist or turn, has the potential to lead to new historical delights or horrors of times better forgotten. There remain questions, though. The sheer improbability of the strange underground system seems astronomical. For many, the answer lies beneath one of Chicago’s most famous historical landmarks The Watertower. Could the proximity of the Nexus of Reality be the catalyst that led to the existence of the caverns and ruins beneath Chicago? Perhaps, but to know for certain it would require the exploration of the entire cavern system. For those who would venture there, a warning: Prudence be your guide and fortune your mistress for none whoever have tried have survived.
